Dass die dicht beieinander erschienen, wusste ich, aber im gleichen Monat? Die Video Games hatte sie damals nicht in der gleichen Ausgabe getestet.

Es besteht jedenfalls ein sehr großes Qualitätsgefälle zwischen den beiden Titeln.

In meiner Erinnerung ist Tonic Trouble mindestens ein Jahr vor Rayman 2 erschienen, weil es als Vorläufer bzw. Experiment gedient hat. So kann man sich täuschen.

3D Rayman kommt zurück.

In an interview with GamesRadar, franchise producer Loïc Gounon spoke about the future of Rayman and even suggested that a brand-new 3D entry could eventually happen.

Gounon began by reflecting on the circumstances surrounding the release of Rayman Origins, noting that the industry at the time was embracing “smaller games, more agile 2D, multiplayer” such as New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. He believes the current market is now more favorable for a return to 3D platformers.

“I think what we’re seeing now with Astro Bot, with new 3D platformers, there is a rebirth of the golden age of PS2-ish platformers” he explained. “If you look back at the franchise, it’s basically Rayman 2, Rayman 3 that were in that era.”

“We think it might be the time to come back with more adventurous 3D Rayman games,” Gounon continued. “We are starting with that project [Rayman Legends Retold], that’s what we are aiming for, in a way, and what we want for Rayman, and we think it’s a good match, both for the players and the market.”

When asked directly whether the team’s next step for Rayman would be a return to the fully 3D style seen in previous entries, Gounon replied: “that’s the plan! That will be the plan if everything goes well!”

He added: “We are setting up a new team. We’re resetting the foundation for the franchise. That’s why also being – even though we are a bit more than a remake – being partially a remake, there are some solid grounds where we felt it was a good way to bring back the franchise.”
